Mardi Gras and Valentine's Day

Last week was a whopper of a week.  On Tuesday, we celebrated Mardi Gras.  Wednesday was Ash Wednesday and Thursday was Valentine's Day.  Thank goodness for President's Day, a day to recover at home.

Arctic Animals

This week we learned about arctic animals.  Did you know that a seal can hold its breath under water for one hour?
First, we made predictions about which animals we thought were arctic animals.  We used the chart above. We lifted the flap to reveal the answer.

We stuck our hands in ice water to see what it would feel like in the arctic.  Yep, it was cold alright.  Look at his little face.

Then, we used a special blubber glove to go into the icy waters.  What a difference it made! Not so chilly now.

We brainstormed after doing our blubber experiment.

More brainstorming

We had a lot of fun learning about arctic animals.  You can learn more about the blubber experiment by visiting Steve Spangler's website.
